A specialist in anesthesiology, cardiac anesthesiology, and critical care medicine with expertise in echocardiography, Dr. Jose Diaz-Gomez earned his medical degree from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia, and later completed an internship and residency at the Cleveland Clinic and a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has also completed advanced training in cardiothoracic anesthesiology and critical care ultrasound. Over the course of his career, Dr. Jose Diaz-Gomez has served as an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic College of Medicine and an associate professor of anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. As a practicing physician, he has served as a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist and intensivist at Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic.
Since 2019, Dr. Jose Diaz-Gomez has cared for organ transplant and cardiothoracic patients as chief of the cardiothoracic, mechanical circulatory support, and transplant critical care section at the Texas Heart Institute - Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston. Alongside his day-to-day professional activities, he serves on national boards and committees for several organizations, including the American College of Cardiology, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and the American Society of Echocardiography. Dr. Diaz-Gomez has also made significant contributions to the Society of Critical Care Medicine, which has honored him with four Presidential Citation Awards for his outstanding work.
